The future of smart textiles according to SYSTEX

Abstract

SYSTEX is a European coordination action aiming at enhancing the breakthrough of smart textiles, policy building has been one of the activities. Through workshops, questionnaires and interviews companies and research institutions were asked for their interest, expectations and needs in the area of smart textiles. From this a policy plan was made for applications in medical and protective textiles. SYSTEX has 12 partners from 5 European countries to build up a market-driven framework and orientation in the area of e-textiles and wearable micro systems.

SYSTEX aims at developing a framework for current and future actions in research, education and technology transfer in the field of e-textiles and wearable micro systems / electronics in Europe to support the textile industry in the most efficient and effective way to transform into a dynamic, innovative, knowledge-driven competitive and sustainable sector.

Prof. dr. ir. Lieva Van Langenhove is professor at Ghent University on fibre based structures and smart textiles. Prof. dr. ir. Lieva Van Langenhove is (co)author of more than 200 contributions in journals and conferences, coordinator of systex, co chair of the thematic expert group on smart textiles of the European Technology platform for textiles and clothing, member of the council of the flemish institute for promotion of industrial innovation.
