bb-logoBetter Buying Institute has today announced that it has hired Leonie Barrie-Abraham, Managing Editor of Just-Style, as the organization’s new Vice President of Business Development.

Barrie-Abraham, who will start in post on August 1st, will play a key role in driving forward the next stage of Better BuyingTM’s growth and development, and supporting its vision of transforming buyer-supplier relationships.

Dr Marsha Dickson, Better BuyingTM’s President and Co-Founder, comments: “Leonie has been a passionate supporter of Better BuyingTM since our earliest days, and to have persuaded her to join us after so many years at the helm at Just-Style is no mean feat and, I believe, a testament to Better BuyingTM’s growing influence and reach.”

“Our next phase is about broadening and deepening participation in the apparel, footwear, household textiles and related industries, and supporting and training companies to make, and embed changes to their purchasing practices. Key to this will be securing buy-in from brand and supplier executive-level industry leaders. Leonie’s extensive sector contacts, and strong commercial sensibility, will be invaluable here, and we’re thrilled to have her on board.”

The Better BuyingTM 2021 ratings cycle is currently live, with suppliers able to register to rate their buyers until May 31st. “We have already seen the highest pace of suppliers submitting ratings for any ratings cycle to date, despite being still two weeks away from the deadline. The data will give us a full picture of brand and retailer purchasing practices, but we know this year’s Index Report will be very much the ‘Covid Index’. This noticeable increase in supplier engagement signals increased understanding among both buyers and suppliers of the value of collaborating to improve purchasing practices as we emerge from the Pandemic.”

Barrie-Abraham comments: “I’ve been a huge fan of Better Buying since its inception, and am super-excited to be joining Marsha and her team as we move forward with ambitious plans to accelerate its impact across the consumer goods sector and beyond. I strongly believe that manufacturing is a force for good, and that transforming purchasing practices is the key to delivering positive change for workers and suppliers and tangible business benefits for brands and retailers. With global supply chains coming under increased scrutiny from all angles, I look forward to working with my many contacts across the industry to raise the bar on more sustainable business partnerships.”
