Revalue waste generated by the footwear sector

MCE Mezclas Caucho , a company belonging to Grupo Soledad, will develop the Circle-rubber Project, research and development of new sustainable rubber formulations through the use of industrial waste, in which industrial waste will be revalued for the creation of sustainable materials.

The initiative is funded by the Center for Industrial Technological Development – CDTI and is co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund – ERDF, through the Pluriregional Operational Program of Spain 2014-2020. This environmental innovation project aims to develop new sustainable rubber formulations to be used both in the manufacture of shoe soles and in the retreading of agricultural tires with low mechanical requirements.

Circle-rubber will contribute to the circular economy by revaluing waste generated by the footwear sector, such as those from textile spinning and EVA foam, and by the tire sector, such as rubber and textile fiber from end-of-life tires, through their use in new sustainable rubber formulations that will serve as raw material in these two sectors.

“By revaluing this waste, and incorporating it into the formulation of new sustainable raw materials, it is intended to help maintain the balance of the environment and minimize the volume of waste that is generated every day in the world and is not properly disposed of. In addition, the products made with the new rubber formulations will be more respectful with the environment since they contribute to reducing the amount of virgin raw materials used “, concludes the statement.
