There are 8 Textile Research Associations (TRAs) – (affiliated bodies under the Ministry of Textile), engaged in research related to textile sector namely:-

  3. Man-Made Textiles Research Association (MANTRA), Surat, Gujarat,

  5. Synthetic & Art Silk Mills Research Association (SASMIRA), Mumbai, Maharashtra,
  6. South India Textile Research Association (SITRA), Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu,

Conducted research particular to State of Maharashtra under Technology Mission on Technical Textiles scheme and established two demo centres to study the effect and rise in productivity due to use of agro textile products at Amravati, Maharashtra. The demo centres were at KrishiVigyan Kendra (KVK) Ghatkhed and KrishiVigyan Kendra (KVK) Durgapur in Amravati District.
The Bombay Textile Research Association (BTRA) Mumbai
  • Conducted adequacy audits for 10 Textile processing units in Maharashtra as per Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) requirement.
  • Developed the training module for in depth training on “ETP, water recycling and sustainable technology for the textile industry. This has been approved by National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) and Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB).
Wool Research Association (WRA)
  • Conducted research work for Woolen Industries (established in Maharashtra): Raymond Limited, Thane
  • Conducted Research work for Sports Industries (established in Maharashtra): Bhavi Multifab, Navi Mumbai &Khanna Sports, Navi Mumbai
  • Conducted Research work for other industries (established in Maharashtra) viz. Schoeller Technologies India Pvt. Ltd., Navi Mumbai & Innoleague Technologies India Pvt. Ltd, Mumbai

Apart from this, with a view to position the country as a global leader in Technical Textiles, National Technical Textiles Mission(NTTM) has been created at a total outlay of Rs.1,480 Crore, with a four year implementation period from FY 2020-21 to 2023-24. Under (NTTM), Ministry has awarded following research projects to Premier Research Institutes of the country in the field of technical textiles:
