WINTEX Project: Promoting Weaving Innovation) among academia and industry in the Tunisian textile sector

WINTEX is co-funded by the European Commission’s ERASMUS + program under the Capacity Building for higher education program.

The WINTEX project will promote the collaboration between the participating European organizations and the ones Tunisia, by creating a network, which may benefit the textile industry in the countries involved in the project. WINTEX will implement activities involving capacity building of staff for the new centers, equipping centers, pilot services to promote the knowledge transfer, workshops and the launch of the Academia Textile Industry Council as catalyst of the action.

WINTEX project aims to fill the gap in the area of specialized services for the Tunisian textile sector with the establishment of three innovation textile centers located at the participating Universities in Tunisia: University of Sfax, University of Monastir and the Higher Institute of Technological Studies of Ksar Hellal-ISET.

The project started on January 15th 2020, it has a duration of 3 years and a total budget of 999.998 €. The WINTEX project meeting was kicked-off bythe Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, on January 16th and 17th at the Institute of Textile Research and Industrial Cooperation of Terrassa (INTEXTER).

The project coordinator is the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) and it counts with the participation of AEI Tèxtils, the Catalan cluster of technical textiles, also established in Terrassa. Five additional partners complete the European part of the consortium: the University of West Attica (UNIWA) and CRE.THI.DEV in Greece, CIAPE in Italy, Gheorghe Asachi Technical University of Iasi in Romania and CEDECS from France. The partnership is completed with six partners from Tunisia: 3 universities (University of SfaxUniversity of Monastir and the Higher Institute of Technological Studies of Ksar Hellal-ISET), one cluster (MFC-Pôle), one association (Association of Tunisian Textile Researchers-ATCTex) and a research center (CRNS).

On July 22nd, WINTEX partners met for the second project meeting, this time, via teleconference to continue with the different planned activities.

During the meeting, the partners discussed about the progress of the project during the first semester and prioritized the different activities foreseen for the next one. The meeting also enabled the review of the pandemic impact on the different activities as well as the potential mitigation strategies.

The aim of the project, in which AEI Tèxtils is partner, is to stablish a collaboration between the participating European organizations and the ones Tunisia, by creating a network, which may benefit the textile industry in the countries involved in the project.

The UPC puts its scientific and technological infrastructure at the service of research groups and centers, researchers and students, professionals, companies and institutions. The textile section of the Departament de Ciència i Enginyeria de Materials performs Textile Education & Research at the UPC Terrassa Campus.
