Due to the impressive and consistent expansion of denim, more and more spinners are including fancy yarns in their product range by employing new and more advanced integrated slub devices. Marzoli was the first manufacturer to introduce a fully integrated fancy yarn device on its spinning frames. In a market where standard yarns leave less and less margin and fashion keeps asking for texture, movement, and difference, Marzoli Super Slub — MSS — has become one of the most consequential answers on the ring frame. It is a fully integrated fancy-yarn technology, not a bolt-on gadget. Designed to live inside Marzoli spinning frames such as the MDS2 and MP1N, it lets mills create slub, multi-count, multi-twist, reverse slub, and every combination of those effects while keeping a tight grip on the drafting process and running at high production speeds.
Marzoli was the first manufacturer to put a fully integrated fancy device on its spinning frames, dating back to 1999. MSS is the matured result of that lineage: close work with customers, especially in denim, plus a patented engineering design. There is no extra mechanical conversion of the machine. Twist and draft variations come from changing the speed of independent motors already on the frame. The mill does not add hardware, extra maintenance, or a separate process island. Fancy yarn becomes another recipe on the same frame.

What makes the technology distinctive is how the drafting system is driven. MSS combines a patented low-inertia drafting drive with purpose-built software and high-performance electronics. The kinematic path — motor, epicyclic gearbox, timing belts, bottom rollers — cuts the inertia of the rotating parts after the gearbox by around a thousand times. That is not a marketing flourish; it is why the machine can execute steep, fully controlled acceleration and deceleration ramps, including ramps as short as about 10 milliseconds, with independently settable and even sinusoidal profiles. The last part of the deceleration curve can be shaped so the slub does not finish in a thin, weak point. That single detail separates a decorative slub from a slub that also weaves and knits without becoming a quality complaint.

Because inertia is so low, shape is no longer a compromise. Mills are not locked into crude “on-off” thickenings. They can specify short slubs — below 20 mm is routinely cited — with multipliers up to several times the base count, dense sequences (tests have shown figures such as 37 slubs per metre at 16.5 m/min, more than 600 slubs per minute), and combinations that competitors either cannot form or can form only by slowing down. The same effects other machines produce can often be run faster on MSS; effects others cannot produce become possible. Front-roller speed can stay constant while the slub is formed, so twist distribution remains even rather than being dragged around by the effect.
The software is built for people who have to invent looks, not only maintain them. The HMI works in millimetres and percentages. A recipe can hold hundreds of different slub lines. Automatic generation can fill a pattern from min/max values with random, cycle, or “Mcch” logic. The editor warns if a parameter set is not workable. A live graph of the slub recipe in production lets the operator see whether the machine is actually drawing what was programmed. Up to 10,000 recipes can sit on the machine. YarNet can manage those recipes from a remote PC. An optional “Draw your slub” editor lets the designer sketch the multiplier against length as a profile of points and lines, then place that profile along the yarn with chosen slub length and pause. That is how a denim house or a fashion spinner turns a sketch into a running lot without a specialist sitting at the headstock all afternoon.
The commercial logic is straightforward. Fancy yarns — especially in denim, shirts, jackets, dresses, home textiles, and drapery — are how many mills step out of commodity pricing. But fancy yarn only pays if it is repeatable, free of weak points, fast enough, and easy to change. MSS is aimed at that intersection: unlimited design range, precise drafting control, and high performance on the same electronic frame that already handles compact, core-spun, dual-core, and double-roving work. Changing lots is a software event. Energy, cleaning, and spare-part load do not jump the way they do when a mechanical slub attachment is hung on the machine.

The patented system to edit fancy yarn recipes With the innovative and patented application “Draw your Slub”, the slub is drawn in a dedicated editor. The editor is very simple to use: by making a double click on the panel, the operator creates single points that are then connected with lines. This system gives spinners enormous advantages: the most important one is that all kinds of slub drawings and shapes are achievable. In traditional systems (competitors) the slub can only have one constant diameter according to the set multiplier, while with Marzoli system the diameter may vary infinite times on every single slub. Moreover, in traditional systems the acceleration and deceleration ramps, that influence the visual effect of the yarn, are pre-setted. With Marzoli system acceleration and deceleration ramps are completely settable, also for every single slub.
